How to get to Berry

Berry is situated on the NSW South Coast, here are a few of the ways you can get to it.

Drive: It is approx two hours drive south of Sydney and three hours from Canberra.

Train: Trains from Central station Sydney leave every 1-2h during peak times and 3-4h during off peak. You can view the schedule on the TransportNSW website.

Airport: The closest airport is Wollongong [WOL] Airport which is 25.2 km away. Other nearby airports include Sydney [SYD] (102.9 km).

Accommodation

Berry, even in the July period, is a popular tourist location. Be sure to book early to make sure you can stay in town.

However is you miss out, there are many other options just near by – take a look at towns like Coolongatta / Shoalhaven Heads (8min), Bomaderry (12min),  Nowra (17min), Kiama(18min) or Gerringong (11min).

Fun Facts About Berry

  • The indigenous people of the area were the Wodi Wodi people of the Dharawal nation.
  • The town takes its name from the Scottish entrepreneurial family of Alexander Berry and his brother David Berry.
  •  It was settled in 1825 and originally known as Broughton Creek.
  • The original trade in town was a tannery, followed by a saw mill in 1840 when a water wheel was built onsite.
  • Film Critic Bill Collins was born in Berry in 1934, as was actor Garry McDonald (1948) and NRL player John McDonell (1943)
  • One of the committee’s extended family had a property overlooking Berry and 7 Mile Beach.
