Volunteers

Many hands make light work and without the support, energy and passion of our volunteers, the convention weekends wouldn’t be as fun as attendees want.

Volunteers undertake at least one shift across the duration of the convention. This could be in any of the following areas:

  • Facilitator/Session volunteers
  • Front desk volunteers

Read more about what these volunteer roles are all about below.

Requirements

What do we expect of our volunteers?

  • Volunteers will be working alongside Convention staff to ensure the success of the event.
  • We expect that you will be willing to do the tasks of the shift you are assigned to.
  • Sometimes unexpected events happen and so we also expect that you’ll step in to help with something even if you aren’t working in that area at the time.
  • Communications are essential to the role. We expect you to stay in contact with the Convention staff across your shift to make sure you know what you need to about what is going on “behind the scenes”.
  • We will ask you to sign a Volunteer Agreement and will expect you to behave in a professional manner, be friendly, welcoming and helpful to all venue and event staff and attendees.

Does this sound like you? Then if you are aged over 18 years of age, we’d love to hear from you!

  • Shifts are available across the whole weekend from Friday morning through to Sunday afternoon.
  • Minimum shift length is 2 hours.
  • You will not be allowed to work more than 8 hours across all shifts on a day.
  • Facilitator volunteers will mark off names and help the facilitator with their needs during the session.
  • Front desk volunteers will help greet and direct people, book them into sessions, scan tickets for entry at performances and others as directed.

Yes! Let us know and we can issue you with an engagement contract and completion documentation.

Volunteer positions are a donation of time.

However you do get the bonus of being able to participate in the session you’ve been allocated to, or being able to attend a session for free if you are on the front desk.

Yes. Let us know on the application form and we will take that into account when signing people up to volunteer positions.

For sure! We won’t schedule you in for more than 8 hours worth of shift on a day though so you still will have time to relax.

We can’t wait to invite you to join the Australian Belly Dance Convention family!
